mindfulness meditation is boiled down to basically this; The practice of mindful meditation involves sitting comfortably, focusing on your breathing, and then bringing your mind’s attention to the present without drifting into concerns about the past or future. 

Many of the studies done by Dr. Hoge suggest that mindfulness meditation has been beneficial for one mental health:

when researchers from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD sifted through nearly 19,000 meditation studies, they found 47 trials that addressed those issues and met their criteria for well-designed studies. Their findings suggest that mindful meditation can help ease psychological stresses like anxiety, depression, and pain.

you can train yourself to experience thoughts of unproductive worry completely differently. Studies conducted by Dr. Hoge says that mindfulness has helped reduce symptoms of worry in people with diagnosed generalized anxiety disorder. Mindfulness practices promote more positive emotions, which is linked to better mental health.
